Lipo suction is the medical intervention performed as part of the cosmetic plastic surgery that consists in the removal of the excess of fat from various areas of the body. Although this is not a complicated procedure, lipo suction can be a very demanding task for the liposuction surgeons, especially when the area that needs to be operated is very large or contains fibers that cannot be easily spread around.
During the liposuction procedures, there are a number of factors that affect the time that needs to be invested in the medical intervention. Among these factors, the most important are the dimension of the area from which the fat tissue is supposed to be extracted, the quantity of fat that has to be removed from underneath the skin, the type of anesthesia suitable for the intervention (although there are situations in which anesthesia is not needed, a simple sedative thus being enough) and the lipo suction technique that is being used.
Lipo suction is the operation that is working not only at an aesthetic level, but it also has great medical meanings. To provide a specific example, a person who has a large tummy tuck is probably feeling awful and in great discomfort when obliged to deal with activities that require movement or intense physical action. And a large abdomen creates the emergence of some other medical conditions, such as back-aches, feet-aches and so on. Tummy lipo suction is, therefore, not only an aesthetic and cosmetic procedure, but is appears to be of medical concern, too.
Unlike other medical operations, lipo suction or lipoplasty does not involve much risk as long as the doctors are experienced and as long as they are trained to perform a certain type of liposuction procedure. The lipo suction procedures consist in the insertion of a cannula or a very narrow tube into a very small incision. The cannula is used for the vacuuming of the fat tissue existent under the skin after the fatty substance has been broken up and then suctioned out. It is very important for the liposuction surgeons to try to hide as much as possible the marks of the incisions. In the case of the chin liposuction, for example, the incisions are usually made behind the ear, where they cannot be seen. This is the traditional liposuction technique that has been used for in the past decades.
Today, there are some other new liposuction procedures that are, in fact, variations of this traditional technique or an improved variant of it. There is a lipo suction technique that uses a fluid injection (made of a salt solution, of a local anesthetic, and a drug that is helping in the contraction of the blood vessels) inserted into the fat tissues right before the removal of the fat. This is the technique that the majority of the lipo suction surgeons use these days. This fluid injection provides less post-operative risks, less blood loss and it helps in the removal of the fat tissue. In the case of the tumescent lipo suction, the quantity of fluid that is being injected is so large that the fat tissue becomes swollen when the fluid is inserted.
No matter the technique that is being used, the patients have to be informed both on the positive effects of the lipo suction procedures and on the risks that such an intervention implies. In order to do this, a relation of honesty and confidence has to exist between the surgeon and the patient.
